Creating A Roadmap For A More Equitable New Orleans: Finding Economic Security
Join the Workplace Justice Project on Friday, April 22, 2022, for a conversation on mapping the path to a more equitable New Orleans. This is a virtual event with incorporated breaks and time for lunch. Registration is free and open to all. Interactive activities, breakouts and discussions will be guided by a facilitator. Attendees will collaborate by exchanging ideas and policy solutions to address social determinants driving economic equity, including healthcare access, the criminal legal system, work and wages, education, housing affordability and reliable transportation. We will also discuss and analyze intersecting issues and outcomes, such as child care, paternity leave and family economic security.

Five Questions To Think About:
1. What barriers/challenges need to be addressed in order to create access,
allow for opportunity, and ensure fairness for all New Orleanians?
2. Who has the power to make system changes? Who does not?
3. How do we increase and expand access to power?
4. How can participants in this effort be held accountable and responsible to
community members in creating systems change?
5. What can you do specifically to support this effort?
Desired Outcomes:
* Exchange Ideas and policy solutions to address social conditions driving inequity
* Create a practical and realistic vision and roadmap for achieving economic equity
* Strengthen cross-sector relationships and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration
Participants Will:
* Gain a deeper understanding of systemic barriers and hear from leading voices
advocating for economic equity
* Review quantitative data and lift up the lived experiences of workers fighting for fair treatment
* Learn about opportunities and creative approaches to addressing challenges through
advocacy, litigation and education
* Create a practical vision for taking collective action and leading systems change

This event is the first of two convenings, hosted by the WJP on economic equity. Participation in both events is not required. We encourage everyone to participate in event sessions as they can.
