Representing Louisiana Workers

The Workplace Justice Project (WJP) is the only organization of its kind in the State of Louisiana. Founded in 2005 to address workplace violations experienced by post-Katrina reconstruction workers, the WJP is a non-profit law firm that works to litigate claims to improve workers’ economic outcomes by promoting access to, and fairness in the courts. We support economic equity through policy research and advocacy for meaningful wages, paid sick leave, and protections that challenge discrimination, among others. These compliment stakeholder education on equity benchmarks, namely good jobs, collective action, and fair wages.

Areas of Practice

We litigate on behalf of workers who have had their employment rights violated under federal, state and/or administrative laws. Our practice area includes discrimination, retaliation, and harassment under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, wage claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Louisiana Wage Payment Act, breach of contract, civil service, unemployment benefits and other civil law claims that may arise as a result of a workplace violation.

Advocacy

We raise awareness on key policy issues that impact Louisiana workers and their families.
